7 Ways to Spend Father's Day on the Water

Jun. 16 2023 Events By Wayzata Marine

Dads are the boat captains of life and our fathers have the wheel, steering us into the future, full throttle. We may be a little biased but we think spending a day out on the water is the best way to spend Fathers Day. We’ve put together a list of the best boating activities to spend quality time with dad!

1. Fishing - There is nothing more classic than going fishing with dad. Teaching the kids how to fish is the perfect way to create memories that last a lifetime and can be passed down from generation to generation.

2. Wakesurfing - A good action packed day always makes for wakes of fun! Whether it’s your first time or you're a veteran it is sure to be full of laughs, cheers of encouragement and fun!

3. Cookout on the Boat - Food is a universal language and it is always guaranteed to bring people together. Grilling and BBQ is a signature dad move but it’s sometimes even better to give dad a break from the heat of it all and just plan for a boat picnic to let him relax, it is Fathers Day after all.

4. Tubing/Wakesports - If you have ever been tubing you know that it’s loads of fun and equally as terrifying because you never know what wake you’ll be thrown off of. This makes for an equally as fun time for dad as a driver because the anticipation is just as exciting.

5. Beach Fire - If you’re lucky enough to live somewhere where you can beach your boat and have an enchanting evening reclined in some beach chairs gazing at the stars sitting around a fire then you know it’s a recipe for a beautiful time.

6. Water-Side Restaurant- Give dad a break from the grill and treat him to a nice lunch/dinner with a view. Pulling the boat up to a lake/ocean-side restaurant is sure to be a fun time. On Lake Minnetonka we recommend Lord Fletchers Old Lake Lodge, Maynards, Lost Bay at the Caribbean, or any of the restaurants on Lake Street in Wayzata such as Cov and 6Smith.

7. Cruising - If you are looking for more of a relaxing laid back vibe going for a nice cruise and anchoring somewhere is the perfect option. Having the kids sit on dads lap and steer is something they will always remember. If your kids are older, doing some bird watching or just soaking in the sun and nature is a great option.
